Oh my god, where should I even start…? Okay, let’s dive in and enjoy some seriously good food.
In this guide, I want to share my personal favorite foodie spots across Japan so your trip can be as incredible and full of flavors as possible - from street food stalls to fine dining experiences.
I’ve been traveling through Japan chasing food and unique places, from Tokyo and Osaka to Kobe and Kyoto, and trust me… it’s been a journey worth every bite.

First things first: be ready to be pleasantly surprised.
The food scene in Japan is on another level.
Honestly, I can only remember one disappointing ramen broth. Otherwise, everything has been amazing. Japan is perfect for diving deep into new flavors, so I recommend stepping outside your comfort zone and trying everything.
What I love the most is the freshness, the traditions passed down through generations, the family recipes, and the authenticity.
You can feel the pride chefs and food artisans put into their craft, often presented in very personal and unique ways.
Yes, you’ll find big chains, stylish cafés, and well-marketed restaurants, but the real magic is often hidden away, you only stumble upon by exploring.
And just so you know - this list will keep growing.
I’ll be traveling back to Japan many more times, and you’ll find new stories here on my site and across my social channels. So you are warmly welcome aboard!
Tokyo
"The city that never sleeps – and definitely never leaves you hungry. In Tokyo, you can eat in, out and from machines 24/7."

Before you set off on your own foodie adventure, I recommend checking out both today’s hottest trends and the city’s timeless, iconic spots. And of course… follow your cravings.
Tokyo is bursting with authentic old-school eateries, trend-driven new spots, and highly Instagrammable cafés and restaurants.
It’s not all about that, you can also find places to slow down, relax, and just enjoy a quiet meal.
Here, you’ll taste some of the freshest ingredients in the world, especially when it comes to seafood.
But Tokyo truly has something for every palate.
Tokyo is a must-visit for any foodie around the world - here’s a small list of my personal favorites:

Osaka
"Oh, Osaka – such a different vibe compared to Tokyo."

I often describe Osaka as more down-to-earth. People feel more relaxed, and the city has a slightly slower pace.
Of course, it’s smaller than Tokyo, and the downtown area actually quiets down after the last metro train leaves, taking people home, to work… or to afterparties 🥰
For food, Osaka is heaven. I did a deep dive into ramen here, so yes – this list is pretty ramen-heavy. I’m sure you’ll love it:
Here is also content from Osaka that strongly fits the theme, take a look at these:

Kobe
"The iconic, legendary Kobe – where I’ve had the best beef of my life (not to mention excellent sake)."

I honestly dream of spending more time here. For now, here’s a short list of places to get you started on your Kobe foodie adventure:
I filmed one day in Kobe, you can watch it here:

Kyoto
"A feast for all senses. Kyoto gave me so many “aha moments” – in its temples, in its peaceful nature, and of course in its food."
